I posted in another forum about the hen we found in the engine of our truck, missing since April 1. She seems to be doing ok besides being skinny. She was stuck in the engine (the truck was driven!) and lost some feathers but only a few. Anyways. Last night she seemed to really want to roost but couldn't get up there. I didn't really see her try but I could tell she wanted to. She kept looking up and kind of stretching towards it. I've seen her move her wings but not fly. I've also seen her only flap one wing. So something is probably wrong with one of them but she can move both. What should I be doing for her?

This is the first I hear about your hen hitching a ride, have you gone over her to see if she is injured? You could try dropping her a few feet to see how her wings work. I'd do that over something soft like litter or hay even soft grass. I'd prob. also give her some yougurt and boiled eggs for her strength.

I can't find anything physically wrong with her. She walks fine and she does move her wings, she just can't seem to lift off. Her comb and face have almost no color though and her poop is a little greenish. I put her in her own cage tonight with a low roost that she can step onto. I'll try the yogurt and egg too.

She might have internal injuries or perhaps, went too long without food and water... Hope she gets better
