If you are ordering straight run then it is a 50/50 chance you will get males. If you want pullets pay the extra money and get sexed breeds. It will be worth it in the long run if you are not wanting males. Ordering from Ideal, unless you order a certain number to assure warmth in shipping, they will add males of unknown breeds to keep your order warm and alive. So, make sure you talk by phone with their service people to be sure you get what you want. Example: I ordered 8 straight run Bantams from them a couple of months ago and got my 8 (turned out to be 4 male and 4 female) plus a bunch of male chicks.OK so i want some chickens from ideal poultry. i am ordering large fowl but i think the Cornish bantams are soooooo cute. i was wondering how many i should order from them so i can get a hen. i don't need many.
Yes that is correct. It would totally be luck of the draw. They do have a 25.00 minimum so, lets say you order the Assorted Bantam Cornish. The price for 1-24 birds is 3.17 each. So you would have to order at least 8 to hit the 25.00 minimum. They would probably include 7-10 males for warmth. Of course if you are ordering other birds the combined total would probably hit the 25.00 minimum and you could order just a couple. Always you have, with straight run, a 50/50 chance between male and female birds. There are no guarantees that you would not end up with just two males.Yes I have had them send males before with some replacement chicks. I am ordering some sexed pullets too I was wondering about the bantam Cornish because they are so cute. so bassicaly if i order say 2 straight run bantam cornish i could get two males, or two females, or a pair, Right. My order for Sebright Bantams was for 8 birds. They sent 9 and one died so I ended up with my order. Luck of the draw I ended up with 4 and 4 (God must have smiled on my that day) and I have a balanced flock. Let us know what you do and be sure to post pictures of them when they get to you.
