I got some more rescue hens last night, Rode Island Reds and this morning when I went out to feed and water them one was crowing. I have heard hens do this in the past when I was younger and thought it was funny. She is a 1.5 yo hen. She is in the lot with my 2 goats and 16 other hens I dont have a roo but she has been with one in the past. The lot is nearly 900 sq. ft.
Now I am wondering why she might be doing it?
Does it mean she wont lay as much?
Does it mean she is probably more aggressive toward other hens?
I am unable to observe them till later to see how they are all doing due to the rain and a severely sprained right hip. But I intend to go out later and sit with them.
FTR I didnt isolate them from everyone because they came from the same flock I got my other 5 hens from a month or so ago due to an overcrowding situation. Normally I would have if I was bringing in outside animals.
Any thoughts on the crowing thing?
