I see hens crow a lot in the context of being broody. I think it is a dispersal mechanism and keeps her on contact with balance of harem. Camera found and on charger so will be making a video for uploading. This will be a staged as hen confined with brood overnight so she will do it more frequently than typical before settling down and doing it every 10 minutes or so.

Hen to be used historically a face flogger but tamed with a lot less effort than one might expect. She even hangs with kids in dirt pile without conflict.

Charging underway. Should be a good reference video.

Crowing she will demonstrate I think natural and differs markedly from what hens do in the absence of a rooster or when hormones are out of kilter.

Short video. New software forcing learning curve.

Single crowing bout occurs immediately. The sound is sort of growl. Can be heard from about 100 feet away so does not carry like a male's crow. I wonder what purpose of the flapping is. Chicks seem to ignore it.
