Can anyone advise? One of my little hens is being bullied by one hen and she keeps getting mounted and has lost feathers on her back and head. I have ordered anti peck spray and the purple anti bac spray. In the meantime, in a forum online I read someone suggested spice and mustard on the area to taste horrible and put the other hen off.
I got her a little saddle jacket and tried English mustard on her head as I can't find any little caps to cover her bald head/neck. The next day she has no feathers on her head and her face is bright red and hot. It's spreading ground to her head. It looks like an allergic reaction and I've put her in her own large dog carrier inside to keep an eye on her. I have given her small doses of piriton antihistamine in the hopes that the reaction will subside and obviously wished I hadn't tried this, poor thing. Has anyone experienced anything similar who could offer advice ? It would be much appreciated! Amanda

Much clearer outside but this is the best I could do one handed. I have been giving her piriton but no real improvement. She is still quite lively and I may move her to sleep with her bantam buff Orpington friend/protector in a large plastic dog transporter which I keep in the run just in case I need to give a time out to the bully hen. May be better for wellbeing rather than keeping her isolated.
There are no traces of mustard left at all and signs of some small pin feathers coming through. She is 2 and eating/drinking ok.
Any thoughts ?

No real thoughts but I don’t get a worried feeling to much seeing this... Could be wrong though...

maybe the pictures in this thread help...
Good link thank you - maybe it's the colour of her skin when there are no feathers. She seems ok and no malaise. I put her with her buff orp friend and she went straight to the coop to lay an egg. Kept the 2 bullies out of the run today but they are fantastic laying marans so reluctant to get rid of them. I may look into getting a cockerel as he would stop bullying and neighbours seems ok with this. In the meantime I'll keep an eye on them all. I'm new on here and really appreciate everyone's quick replies and input!🐓

A long time contributor here has said many times “solve for the peace of the flock” . Sometimes it’s really hard to figure out how best to do that but it seems like you are getting a handle on things. One of the first things new chicken keepers should do is build big enough to divide in two. I wish I had! Good luck with your flock!
