Why does my hen have a swollen gizzard?

Yesterday I went out to feed my chicken and found one hen with a large lump under her neck. Looks like her gizzard was swollen. This morning when I went to check on her she was dead. Does anyone know what would cause that? I saw part of a stara-form plate in the coop, could she have gotten sick from eating that? The other 5 hens seems fine. I feed them laying pellets.

Thanks,
Rosann
I just Googled "Styrofoam biodegradable period".
It takes 500 years to forever for that material to break down. And I have also learned today that it is a no no as far as exposing your poultry to the "forever product". Duly noted and thanks for sharing your experience, as sad as it was. You just might of saved other members from a similar tragedy.
