I have only two hens. One came down with Marek's Disease, became paralyzed on left side wing and leg. The hen died two days later, the other hen is distressed beyond belief, she misses her companion. My question is, since these two birds have lived together more than 4 years, can the remaining healthy hen be put with other chickens without risk of infecting them? Other than the stress of losing her companion she is healthy and active. Should it be expected that se has the disease, and if so will she be a danger to new chickens???

    Thanks for your help.

Did you confirm the Mareks with a necropsy? Both your hen and your property are positive for Mareks, but if you vaccinated a new hen or chicks, and kept them somewhere else for a week or more, then they should be immune. I'm not pretending to be an expert on Mareks, but that it what I understand is true.
