One of my RIR hens fell into a water trough. It was raining and I went out to check everything and found her. I currently have her swaddled in a towel next to me. She’s twitching rhythmically and her breathing sounds rough every so often. What should I do?

She sounds like she might of gotten some water in her lungs. Keep an eye on her and give her some treats that have vitamin c like broccoli and kale to prevent a respitory infection.

If you have a syringe I would mix up some warm water and sugar - add drops to the corner of her beak. Usually once they figure out it's sweet they'll ask for more and that can help with the shock of the situation.

Once you've got all the drippy wet moisture off of her with the towels, if you have a blow dryer, I would help her dry that way. Most of them actually enjoy it. **edited to add ... didn't realize this was several hours ago ... probably dry by now.**
