Hen gasping for air, please help!!!

My 1 year old hen start gasping for air for the last couple days that ive noticed. This morning her comb was a little darker red and looking a little purple towards the back of it and her breathing seems a little worse. No nasal drainage or bubbles in her eyes so I'm not sure what to do. She was eating and drinking when I first separated her but I haven't seen her yet this morning im guessing because her breathing is worse. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Examine the inside of her mouth and throat, anything there that shouldn't be? Grain, hair, worms? Feel her crop at night (should be full), feel it again in the morning BEFORE food or water is offered to her (should be empty). If you can eliminate those possibilities, then it's probably respiratory of one type or another. As always, a vet is always best, but if that's just not possible I'd suggest antibiotics. Tylan50 comes to mind, many many posts on the forums here with dosage information. If you need to treat for worms or respiratory illness, I'd treat them all; I'm sure that many would disagree, but I'd rather not have eggs for a week or so and still have chickens.

I didnt not see anything obvious in her throat and massaged around and didnt feel anything abnormal either. I will give her antibiotics and tonight feel her crop. I agree with you about treating them all, id rather be safe than sorry. If her crop is not full tonight and/or not empty in the morning what would the suggestion be there for treatment? Can you put antibiotics and wormer in the same water?

I wouldn't unless you're in dire shape and going for a 'Hail Mary' move, but then... I don't really know the answer to that question. Hoping that someone who does will chime in on the subject. Be advised that Corid treats coccidiosis ONLY, it doesn't treat other types of worms like ring worm, tape worm, gape worm, etc., but it IS the most common ailment among chickens and rears its ugly head with young birds and birds that are immuno-compromised from another, unrelated illness. So there's a third medicine in the mix if you're going to treat for 'everything'.
How's she been laying? I know that sounds unrelated, but if she's dealing with infection internally, that infection can squeeze any number of her nine air sacs and/or one or both lungs and cause difficulty breathing too. (Another vote for antibiotics) Problem with chickens is that so many of their symptoms overlap!
