Hen goes missing

HI everyone, sorry if this is in the wrong forum list.

My beloved RIR hen has been missing for a whole day. I am ever concerned about her. We do not have any roosters. There are no feathers or signs of attacks. I let the hens free in the backyard...sometimes they wander but always make their way to the coop before nightfall. I have searched the neighbourhood for her and I cant find her any ideas on what to do is greatly appreciated. Thank you

Without knowing where you are, there's only a few suggestions I can think of.

Be sure to check under any bushes or anyplace in the area where she may be hiding a nest. She could have gone broody. It doesn't take a rooster for a hen to go broody.

I'd also call the local police and humane society to see if anyone has turned her in or reported her being in their yard.

For missing pets in general there are often lost pet facebook groups you can post in, in case someone spots her

Your girl MAY have just gotten a bit adventurous. My chickens "free range" during the day when I am home -- except two bad girls who have both taken off overnight and returned safely. Of course it scared the bejeebers out of me, caused tears and handwringing. Those two lost privileges and are now NEVER allowed out of their coop and run.

I hope your girl also comes home and will look forward to the update.

Oh and yes only a few days ago she started venturing off more than usual. There’s a storm coming I hope she comes back today.
