i have a hen and today is the second day she just sits in a nest box. She pecks and me and yells/screams if I try to touch her. I know she has at least one egg under her. Is she going broody already? This is her first year she is only about 6 months old. But she does go to the roost at night. Or is she egg bound? Her comb and waddles are paler then normal.

One of my February pullets has been broody a couple of weeks now. Last year one of my girls hatched her first batch of chicks by 6 months old. She's not too young. Egg bound she would still be out and about but perhaps sluggish and wouldn't have the energy to scream and bite you.

As long as shes laying it is possible she can go broody but she may just be a bit cranky when it comes to laying. next time you catch her sitting try taking her out and putting her on the ground, If she continues to lay on the ground thats a sign that she may be going broody, Also if find feather in the nest and notice she plunking out her chest feathers that means she getting ready to settle on a clutch. And if she lays on her eggs like a pancake completely flat on the eggs that also indicates shes broody, If shes showing all these signs then it sounds like you got a broody

This is what she's doing. No signs of feathers in the nest yet. I will try putting her on the ground and see what happens. She hasn't come out to get water yet so I was going to at least try getting her to drink if she doesn't leave the nest soon. Thank you I was worried about egg bound at least I don't seem to have to worry about that. :)

She looks like shes trying to lat flat on the nest though i would need a full body view.

Well she's out wandering around for now. So maybe she's just a cranky egg later? There are three eggs in the nest she was sitting in.

Take all eggs even ceramic, and if she continues to spend extra amount of time in the best box devise a block during the night and mornings and it'll break broodiness as well as take her away from the coop if you let them out I had a pullet go broody with no roo around and everytime I let the girls out she either stayed in the box or the coop regardless, after prying her away from the coop one day to stay with the rest free ranging, the next day she was up and poppin like normal !

Ok I can do that. :) thank you very much

Sounds like she's thinking about going broody.
But if she goes to the roost at night, she's not fully broody yet.
If she's truly broody lack of eggs in the nest won't make a bit of difference,
and she'll stay in there most the day and all night.
Next question is, do you want her to hatch out some fertile eggs?

No I do not want her to now. I've currently got enough chickens. Lol maybe next spring or summer. She hopped off the nest yesterday afternoon and has yet to sit back in one so far. Her comb and waddles also got some color back to them.
