I have 3 Rhode Island red's and 2 Easter eggers. 2 reds are laying and 1 ee. I went out this morning to check on the girls. And it looks like the 3rd red might lay an egg. Her feathers by her vent are all pushed open and she's "pulsing" and haven't seen her poop. I've been watching her all morning. She's just kind of walking around slowly.

It's been a couple hours, should I be worried that she hasn't laid an egg yet? Is it normal for the first egg to take some time to be laid?

Watching her like that will drive you crazy. It's possible today is the day, but it's possible it's not. You will know by her cackling when she's been successful.

Welcome to BYC!

I wouldn't worry too much.....just keep a calm eye on her, don't stress her out with hovering worry.

I'll bet it's a soft shell egg, they don't move along as easily as a hard shell egg,
and the bird can act very weird until it's finally out.

Same chicken still hasn't laid an egg. She's still walking around slowly and she's trying to poo and not much is coming out. I feel like her bum is a bit swollen. I felt it and it feels "squishy" and I didn't feel any eggs.

Should I be worried? She's just acting funny and differently than the other hens. She's eating and drinking but something seems off.

Help!

She just laid this tiny egg while walking around. Could this be the cause of her symptoms?? I massaged her bum thinking something might be stuck and a half hour later she popped this little egg out!

Well, I'm glad after a week something finally came out!

Has she pooped all week?

How does her vent and abdomen look?

You might want to put her in a wire crate to make sure she pooping OK.

She has pooped but it wasn't a lot. Her vent looks fine, but she is very swollen. It's visible that it's larger than the other girls. Could it be because of that tiny egg? I'm hoping since that came out she will feel better.

She seems ok, just slower than the other girls. I picked up one of the other girls and felt her abdomen and it's nothing like the swollen girl.

I massaged her thinking maybe she was egg bound. Do you think that tiny egg had her blocked up somehow?
