Hen has a bare bum

One of my hen's bum is a bit bare. I think one of my other hens has been plucking out the feathers and eating them (i have oyster shells in the run but I don't think this hen knows that she can eat them). What can I do to help my girls bum grow some feathers and stop the other hen from pecking them out? (She's not aggressively doing it, I think its just bad habit)

There are many causes that can cause hens to rapidly lose feathers such as:

1) Flock members that are bullies
2) Molting (it is the season right now)
3) Lice and/or mites
4) Poor diet
5) Predator attack

Hope this helps :)

Hi! I dealt with the exact same problem. I made sure no one was picking on my hen Tiny, and then she was bare bum for a while, but it all grew in when she moulted. She is back to to being the fluffiest girl in the flock. Just remember, feathers always grow back!
