This morning I went out to take care of the birds and one of my laying hens has an egg lodged in her breast and is pecking at it.

What to do? I know I need to remove the egg but then what? Is there any chance she will survive?

I've read that chickens can get eggs hung up but never heard of one coming out of their breast. I'm going to try and get a picture but anybody have some advice?

Holy Smokes! Just when you think you've heard it all.....Are you sure it's an egg? Could it be a breast blister? I would really need to see a pic to help,

Listen, if this "egg" is on the front right side of the breast, chances are it`s just a full crop. If it goes down overnight, without additional feed, that`s exactly what it is.......Pop

Definitely was an egg no question about it. Went out to get a pic and it's gone now, she is acting ok and you can barely tell she has an injury. Either it passed through the front or went back down after she laid.

My wife was with me and we both saw the egg plain as day. You could even hear it clicking when she hit it with her beak. It was an egg.

I believe lollipop is correct.

If it happens again tomorrow I'll be ready with my camera.
