Hello friends!!!! I noticed that one of my chooks had some mild scabbing on her comb a few weeks ago, and treated it with peroxide, then colloidal silver, then put Vaseline on it to try to protect it. It hasn't gotten any better and is now spreading! One of her eyes is almost completely swollen. I have 9 other birdies, none of which are showing any sign of injury or anything. Here's a few details if it helps any:
She's a 1.5 year old white leghorn.
Besides minor changes in mobility because of compromised eyesight, the rash/injury is the only real symptom.
Normal eating, drinking, laying habits.
This has been going on for about 3 weeks, but I have only been able to catch her once to treat her.
Including some pictures I was able to get of her a couple days ago.
No bad smell or oozing, I was wondering if she's just henpecked, but I thought it would be all over her body if she was, not just the comb.
TIA for any advice!!!!
Oh, and I will be doing all of her medical care, a vet isn't an option in my area. I don't think this is serious enough for me to have to put her down, but I am not completely against doing that IF it's the right option. I just don't think we're there yet.

one of my chooks had some mild scabbing on her comb a few weeks ago,
Kinda looks like fowl pox.. though I might expect to see other showing signs. It is a slow spreading virus though. Best treatment is nutritional support.

I wouldn't cull now since she is still eating, drinking, and laying.. not withdrawn or self isolating. Whatever she may have if it is contagious then your other birds will have already been exposed. Every one has their own immune system though and things take down the weakest link first. It is not too deadly of a condition and should pass.

If it was hen pecking.. I wouldn't expect to see what looks like knots all over the place. Seeing where she roosts at night and who she might be in reach of could tell you if there's some pecking going on.

I do ALL treatments after roost time once dark using a headlamp to keep it dim.. in this fashion I NEVER chase anyone as chickens don't see well at night and tend to stay put.

Hope she recovers quickly! :fl

Thank you both! No, she has not been vaccinated for fowl pox. Hopefully if that's what it is, she'll start recovering soon and the rest of the flock won't be affected!
