Hen having trouble passing egg!

Good news after a nice warm spa bath and a little lube she passed the egg about a hour ago. I never heard a chicken scream before. When she was done I was amazed the egg is huge. She has laid double yokes before but this thing is a monster.

Thanks all for your wisdom and help. I also drew some blood to have my friend test it for calcium levels.

FYI, the calcium recommendation is not to correct a dietary deficiency. It is a bolus of calcium to help with the muscle contractions. Standard veterinary practice to give a bolus of Calcium when a bird is egg bound.

I am curious why do you give calcium in the water ? I actually have never heard of this. I would imaging too much of a good thing would be bad. Its in laying mash, Its free choice on the side . Is it possible it is the cause of too large eggs ? I think plain water would be best.

I'm away at scout camp with the kids this weekend. When I get home I'll take a pic of the egg. When I saw it all I thought was ouch. Hens doing fine her vent is back normal. I took the pic this morning yellow is normal large tan egg. This is my hens normal size on the left. The one on the right is the egg that took three days to pass. She has since given 3 normal size eggs over the weekend.

I give vitamins and calcium in the water to make sure my hens have what they need to cover there eggs. Only negative is my hens do seem to have thicker shells. Her blood work came back from my friend. It was all normal.
