My baby was taken yesterday by a husky, was in his mouth for about 5-10 min while I rescued her. Dog would not let her down for the love of God. I screamed, cried and begged the dog to let go of my chicken. At the end when he did, my chicken laid almost lifeless. She cannot walk, or stand, and has been laying down since yesterday. It has been almost 24 hours since the accident. Her injuries do not seem deep, we put merthiolate on them. My baby has been staying warm in my room. Brought her sister in to sit next to her. I don’t know if she will make it, she looks very sad, and lifeless. I don’t know what to do, I don’t want to lose her.

I'm so sorry!
If you have photos you can share they would be welcome.

Is she alert enough for you to give drops of warmed sugar water?
Keeping her warm is good. But see if she can take in fluids.

With the dog carrying her about, even if external injuries don't look to bad, she may have suffered internal injuries from the pressure of the dog's mouth holding her.

I’m so so sorry.

Now would be a good time to figure out how to make sure this doesn’t happen to another chicken.

Who does the dog belong to?

How did the dog access your chicken?

Do you have a predator proof run?

Was it on your property or did your chicken wander somewhere else?

I really don’t want you to have to go through this with another bird. ❤️

The dog belongs to a neighbor, I don’t know which one though. I had never seen him loose. He got in my yard, and took my chicken out across the street.
