Hen in Agitated sort of Search

That is a very good size for a first egg! Wow, you got your money's worth there LOL.

My hens, when they were still free range behaved exactly the way you described in your first post. Always looking for a newer, better place to lay. I found eggs in the strangest places...

Thanks so much Sumi. Last night I started building a free range Nesting house we can move around the yard to some of their favorite locations. See if we can make our egg hunts easier if we don't see them laying in the coop. we'll see how that goes. Fall and winter are coming and I'm thinking they probably won't range far from the coop then....?

She may lay a double yolker or 2 for you while she sorts out her new egg laying skills.

That's what I've read and understood to expect abnormalities.

I went right to work Wednesday night and cobbled together a portable nesting house to move around the yard to wherever their place of preference happens to be which is usually around the house and away from the coop. Sunny and now Holly (my Black Australorp) have laid in there. They love it. Hopefully all my free rangers will love it when their time comes to lay. Ha!
