Hi, I'm new at hens that nest. I was missing my black one and found her in the lily patch. I noticed there were eggs under her. I didn't want to bother her as she seemed to be doing ok. It has been a few weeks now and this morning I noticed some feathers on her back were missing also on her wings. I moved her into a plastic storage box with a baby gate for a lid. I placed soft leaves and torn paper under her then her eggs. Please tell me what to do I don't want to loose her or her little peeps.

Hi, and welcome to BYC.

If you moved her and she's still sitting tight on the eggs, then put food and water in easy reach and leave her alone. Check her every three days to see if she needs more food/water and to see if she has any chicks. That's about it. She'll only get off the nest every third day or so to poop/eat/drink while she's setting. If she's been sitting for a couple of weeks already, then you could have chicks any time now!

If you moved her and she's agitated and not sitting on the eggs, you *might* be able to save the eggs by getting them into an incubator ASAP.
