Hen in one box, egg in the other

They do this all the time. They come in, they look in two or three nests. Jump down and leave, come back in, get in a nest, get out of the nest, try another nest, settle, jump out, reconsider, and then pick a nest and lay the egg.

I quit trying to figure out laying patterns a long time ago. I find eggs on the poop boards, under the next boxes on the floor, out in the run….I’m not surprised anymore and just pick em up and say thanks!

I got 10 nest boxes, all nice and clean and nice comfortable bedding. They don’t care. All the eggs are laid in the same 2 boxes every day. Except for the random ones I find here and there. I get my eggs, the chickens are happy. Win win. Lay em where ever you want!
