from New Mexico!

Sorry to hear about your hen. Was she also wounded, possibly from the rooster? If so, she could be suffering from an infection from a spur. Get her under some heat from a brooder lamp. Sick or injured birds go into shock easily and get cold. The shock can kill them long before the injury does. So get the heat up around 85+ degrees. Keep her out of drafts. Don't stimulate her with wooden eggs.

You can try feeding her soft foods like hard boiled eggs or warm oatmeal. Anything she will eat.

If her poop starts to get yellow on the caps, it most likely is internal infection, in which case you might want to start antibiotics in the water. If the wound is still open or looks oozy, you can use neosporin on it, (the kind without the pain killer).

Good luck and I hope your hen heals soon. Enjoy the forums!
