I have a 3 month old buff orpington hen and shes been doing fine eating and drinking acting like a normal chicken until early last night when she starting acting weird.

She just stands where she is like she doesnt know what to do and sometimes she will peck at the ground very lethargicly never opening her beak or anything.

I checked her beak to make sure nothing was stuck in it preventing her from opening it or causing any other issues and it was totally normal, her crop is also empty so I dont suspect it to be sour crop?

This morning when I let them all out she did come out on her own and sort of wandered around but wasnt going to eat. I put her in front of the feeder and tapped on it to try and get her interested in it but she just completly ignored it and stoos there looking around slowly like she doesnt know what to do? Oh and shes also gotten very quiet making almost no noise like she used to.

Has anyone had this happen to them before? If anyone has any idea what it could be please let me know!

Is she acting lethargic or hunched or standing puffed up, having any runny or blood tinged poops? Have you had any problems with coccidiosis? Corid liquid or powder from the feed store is safe to use if she might have coccidiosis. Dosage is 2 tsp of the liquid per gallon of water for 5-7 days. You can also give an extra boost in addition to her of 0.1 ml undiluted Corid once a day for 2-3 days to jumpstart treatment. Worms could also be an issue. Valbazen or Safeguard liquid goat wormer work well, and I can give a dosage. Look her over for any lice or mites on her skin. Try offering some watery chicken feed, and maybe a bit of egg or tuna in small amounts to try and tempt her to eat. Chickens with coccidiosis may try to eat, and then won’t because of abdominal pain. Keep the bedding as dry and clean as possible, and prevent spills.

Yes she is acting VERY lethargic almost like a zombie just standing there barely moving and now she is more hunched over. They had coccidiosis just a few weeks after we got them and we treated with corid.

I havent seen any of her poops because she hasnt been eating or drinking. I will try some watery feed and some egg or tuna.

I checked her skin for lice and mites and she looks totally normal.

Their coop and run is very clean as well as their feed and water.

Edit: shes eating some scrambled egg now but shes really struggling to do it, she just keeps kind of "gnawing" it and getting it all over her beak doesnt seem like shes swallowing much of it?
