I have one Easter egger right now, Grace. A weasel got her two sisters a couple weeks ago and I'm getting two more bird on Tuesday. They will quarantine for a week or so and then we will introduce them to Grace.

It will be 18 degrees tomorrow night and 15 the following night. I know they should normally be okay at that temperature but I'm worried because she's alone and the coop was the same temp as the outside yesterday morning when I was checking the temperature.

She's also a lazy molter. She doesn't look like she's missing feathers except a couple from her tail, but we find them occasionally. She got some new pin feathers on her neck last week.

Do I need to bring her in to the garage overnight with 18 and 15 degree nights? 22 or 24 is the lowest she's been in so far. It was 24 yesterday morning and she's okay.

Thank you!

put her in a nesting box by herself.she should keep herself warm that way.what is your coop like? could you get pics?
She actually sleeps in the nesting box already! I (think) I attached a picture from before we lost the two chickens. You can see there's a coop and run inside the dog kennel. Grace is just in the coop and run at night with it locked up. The "door" to the coop is just an opening, but I put a tarp around the short end of the run and there's a piece of plywood along the back to block the wind. There are 3 nesting boxes in the coop and she has claimed the corner box.

How do you plan on integrating the new birds?

I will probably put grace in the run and the 2 new chickens in the kennel area so they can see each other without touching. They I will let them all play in the kennel together. This is after quarantine.

Hi I have an answer !!
I just found it for my lone hen ! look at the featured article " making a heated nesting box so your eggs don't freeze". look at that article it's brilliant ,!
I have a Seedling mat and I'm going to make a heated nesting box for my loane hen. I understand your concern because you know it's cold out there it was is 28 degrees in the garage last night . not too much heat to make her. dependent on the heat just enough to keep her warm best Karen

I keep a couple of roosters in pens by themselves. They don't need other chickens to stay warm, they warm themselves. It was -18 here last night, my chickens are fine, including the 2 with no birds with them.
