My one and a half year old Cochin is scared of the Rooster. She hides in the coop on the highest roost most of the day. The only time she comes down is when she knows that the Rooster is free ranging, then she will quickly come down and eat and drink. The rooster will check back in the coop and if he sees her he will chase her. She screams and runs back in the coop and roosts. It is like he hunts her. I have 20 Hens and only one Rooster. What is his or her problem? Can He really hate Her? What do I do.?

He's not treating her right. Maybe if you were to play "Tonight's the Night" by Rod Stewart....

Maybe a nice glass of wine and a foot rub...opps, sorry that would be claw rub

He's trying to bring her under his control. Lil' Bit used to scream and come try to find me every time Thor gave her "the look". Once he actually mated her, she was fine. She's now his favorite hen and she cuddles up next to him at night on the roost. She spends her days following him around and preening him constantly.
ETA: Once your hen stops fighting it and let's nature take its course, she'll find out there are advantages to being one of the roo's favorites.
