Hen is hiding from Rooster

Yes, she'll see the light soon. Not all fun being a chicken, even a kindly treated one. Men always have to have their way...

And I agree with Gritsar, once both know their place in line the hen will have a total advantage in this game of life. She'll get only the best food, freshly picked from her man, and wonderful protection. She'll find the way there.

In the meantime, if you notice that she isn't getting enough to eat or drink, you should interviene and bring her some food. A rooster's wants shouldn't take the place of proper nutrition for the poor hen. Don't help out unless totally necessary.

actually this is common, I have this now with 2 of my hens, I dont know if they are easier to catch or what, but the roosters will spend all of thier time with them and ignore the other hens. I have had to separate the easier caught hen out because of the physical damage that was done to her. However I noticed the other black pullet that they pick on is looking pretty bad as well.

I honestly believe that its because these 2 pullets put up less of a fight once caught, and the roos know it.

I have only had this happen once before and It really makes it hard to manage the flock.

This is no joke...that's why I'm looked it up. I have a 3yr old Cochin hen. I hatched another clutch and now we have 6 roos. They jump her, shes missing feathers in the back. Shesleped on the feed can outside when he chased get a few days ago...but today She was hiding under my car away from the flock.
When I chased get back 5 roos jumped her.
Seperate her away from him!! I have another cage so it's easy. It was bad enough i though they would kill her!!

Do you need 5 roosters? Roosters gang breeding hens can seriously injure them. Time to crock pot 4 of the five.

oops, I misread - time to crockpot 5 of the 6.

Don't separate the hen, lock up the cockerels. Then put 5, or even all 6, in a pot or the freezer. Your hen should not have to put up with that sort of abuse.

My roos are for sale...I separated her because she was staying close to me and was in shock. She is a pet...I found it interesting that the posting that I responded to was also a COCHIN! There are other reasons why we talk to other.

Have you ever killed and cleaned a chicken? I'd rather shoot them and dig a hole!

Until they go it would be a good idea to put them in a bachelor pad so they cannot harass the females.

Yes. It is impossible to sell cockerels or roosters around here, so my extras get butchered for the freezer. I'm not giving them away for someone else to eat.
