Hen is too cold...

Quote:
I would think bringing her inside would totally throw her off, and make her more susceptible to the cold? That's why I was thinking of the 'brooder'. It is somewhat warmer, but not too warm. All the chicks in there were outside chicks to begin with, I just took them away when the mamas started to ignore them. It is just out of the wind, and there is a little bit of heat in there.

She might benefit from some vitamins in her water too, like Pedialite. Or if you have some electrolytes. If she's been fluffed up for days there might be something additional going on- keep a close eye as you provide a draft-free environment. Will she accept warm feed like oatmeal or crumbles/yogurt from you?

A box would be great! Newspaper is a great insulator, just a bit bigger than your hen, lined with paper and put in straw, she can cozy up in there, maybe put up high on a shelf with a ladder to get to it in the barn. Sometimes my hens sleep in the barn with the cows cause they put out so much heat. But mostly cause theyre rebels.Since they have thier own heated coop! That makes me mad.
