Hen laid egg on poop board

Is it normal for a hen to lay a perfectly eatable egg on the poop board? Looks like she was to lazy to go to the box at night. LOL

Yes. Chickens do weird things. Last week mine made themselves a new nesting spot in the straw and laid a couple eggs on the coop floor then laid in the nesting box the next day.

we made them a nesting box in the penthouse area that they randomly lay eggs in so we made them a spot for them too but instead they lay in the corner next to it and love it. The rooster was even telling them to lay there.

I had this problem, can't see to get to the nest box. I put a photo cell, battery op stair light in one nest box and it solved the problem. battery lasts three +months.

Has nothing to do with laziness, they can't see well in the dark so if they feel they must lay, they'll drop the egg from the roost. Since you have poop boards it landed there from the roost.

My 18 month Speckled Sussex has been laying from the roost for the past 2 months... lol! Some eggs are fine, most unsalvageable. Only a couple have made it into the nesting box.
