I have a black sex link that is about 18/19 weeks, whom I saw lay an egg today. I have 5 that are in the laying age, but have been getting an egg a day, for a week, which I figure is normal, as I'm sure everyone is maturing differently. Anyways, after my black sexlink laid today, she stood over it for awhile, so I let her be. I came back, she was still standing over the egg. She looked weird, I was able to shoo her from the nest, so I could look at her. I noticed her wattles and comb are real pale. She seems to be doing fine. Do I need to give her some acv water, or electrolytes? Is it normal?
I don't actually know if this is her first lay, or who exactly is laying. I've had two big eggs, and the rest have been small, consistent with first time laying..
Any advice is appreciated.

First check for mites or fleas. Then take a look at her poop if all looks normal it wouldn't hurt to give electrolytes and maybe some oyster shell or yogurt.

Thank you! I have not seen either mites or fleas. I did offer electrolytes and probiotics. I will get some yogurt to offer her as well.
She looks better today, but still a little pale.
(I do offer egg shells on the side. )

Thank you for replying

I was told egg shells do not get absorbed very well and the oyster shell is better source of extra calcium. I get mine from lemos pet store! They have a whole section just for chickens :)

Oh! Everything I've read recommended egg shell over oyster... I'll pick some up this week.
Thanks a bunch! :)

Egg shells get absorbed too fast, and the calcium isn't available to the bird in early morning when she's laying down the shell. I'd look for parasites too, and treat with permethrin dust if there's any doubt. Mary

Laying an egg is like a human giving birth every day. They sometimes have a hard time and go into a trance like state, there's a lot of exertion and pushing, I wouldn't be surprised if they feel like passing out, some hens will sit back down to recover a while, it was hard work to push the egg out, it will get easier as she gets older.

Thank you!
I was thinking that maybe it was just cause she laid an egg, possibly for the first time. She looked a little shocked after laying. I told her I was sorry, I know how birth is, haha.
She looked alot better yesterday, but I will be keeping an eye on her.

You guys are awesome, thank you for your help.
I can get permethrin at the co-op right?
