I collect our eggs from our nestbox every day, so I know it had to have been lain this way. Picked up egg and noticed it "rattled", and you could hear the water sloshing. Shook it again to make sure I had heard what I heard.
Kids and I broke it open and promptly buried it. UGH! Green, rotten....
Why, and how did this happen? Should I be worried about my hens?
This is the first time this has happened, and not sure which one did it?
Thanks for any help or advice!

if the nesting material is deep then the eggs could of been hidden for a extremely long time and re-organised and un-covered. i doubt it being in the hen or you would of noticed it being proplaspe or something like that. that is my best guess or maybe the chicken has a hiding spot and some how brought it up because it was stuck by a broken egg on her feathers and draged up the bad egg.
