We have done a couple of posts about this hen, and we are still perplexed. This is a picture of the "egg" she layed this morning. It was accompanied by a small peice of meaty something or other. The "egg" is encased in connective tissue, but has no shell. I am too squeemish to see what is inside of it, but will look if necessary. Has anyone seen anything like this? Our hen has been expelling dark, bloody, jiggly blobs every few days, and some egg white as well, the odd yolk. Is this going to pass?

Any help would be appreciated.

I have never seen an "egg" like that. I don't blame you for not wanting to look in it. I wouldn't want to either. I hope someone will know whats going on and be able to help.

Come on, you really have to look inside that thing!

I wonder if she could have had an egg break inside her, causing bleeding of her repro tract, and then that blood is of course applied to the new egg that came out? Chicken newbie, and I've never had that happen to my birds (knock on wood) so I don't know, but just thinking out loud here...

oh my! are you sure its an egg and not an enlarged/swollen/blood covered ovary?

open that thing up!

Thanks for the encouragement...I got brave enough to look inside. Here it is. Gross!!!!
