Hen Laying 2 Eggs- Danger?

I just read that I should be worried if I have a hen laying 2 eggs per day, which I do have. The person writing said that she would be worried the chicken would develop egg peritonitis.

Has anyone had a hen who laid 2 eggs a day, and, if so, did she develop egg peritonitis or egg binding, and die? If so, how old was she when she died?

Thanks for your assistance,

Clare
I have 5 chickens and 1 turkey hen, and in the last 48 hours we collected 40 eggs, only 2 of those were turkey. And 2 others were aracauna (blue green) so the other 4 had 36 eggs in 2 days... OK perhaps some were missed but even if 1/2 , would mean 4 chickens laying 18 eggs in 2 days... this is a bit odd...

Are you collecting eggs at the same time everyday? Sometimes you can find 2 days in one day with one that was actually laid late the previous day and the other laid the current day.

It's physically impossible for a hen to lay more than 1 egg per day. The laying cycle is roughly 24-26 hours in length. Therefore, you get 1 egg a day or every other day depending on the hen and if she takes breaks.
My chicken who is in her first weeks of laying has been laying 2 a day. Often one of the eggs is very soft shelled.

Its not physically impossible. My two new layers just gave me four eggs, in the same box, two days in a row. I have a camera in my coop and watch them

I'm probably going to be brow-beat for this, but it's just not natural or normal for a hen to lay more than 1 egg per 24 hour period. Even it is was possible and documented through some sort of scientific study, I still wouldn't want that hen on my farm. It's most likely some sort of effect humans have had doing selective breeding for high production. We shouldn't sacrifice high production for the original beauty of the original breed or even the health of the hen. I would think it would shorten her life span. Have you ever seen a hen lay an egg? I wouldn't want any of mine to go through that more than once a day just for the sake of saying, "Well, my hen lays 2 eggs a day."
You seem a bit silly. My 6 year old bantam Im sure has just started laying 2 eggs in one day. Twice in the last week she has literally yelled out after laying an egg, and then only an hour later, does it again. She has just started laying again in the last 3 weeks, after raising chicks...so I googled it and came to this thread. Your comments, choosing to disbelieve, even though many other people have experienced it, are pretty disappointing. If you think you know everything about chickens, why are you even on this page?

Well all I can say is, I have 6 hens and two days in a row I've gotten 7 eggs. So unless someone is putting the extra egg there, I would say not physically impossible.
