Im having trouble getting my 12-year-old devil hen to lay in the nest. I free range my chickens and i was told i should leave them shut up for 30 days to get them to lay in the nesting boxes. All my other hens layed propperly and have stayed lahing in the nest. BUUUUT i did not get any of this hens powder blue eggs. As soon as i let them back out she was laying again ontop of the hay in my barn. Now this doesnt sound so bad yes? Well the hay is stacked three times my size. Sooo i have to climb a stinking latter every time i want to get her egg. So my question is how on earth do i get her to start laying properly?

Is that a typo or did you truly mean you have a hen who is 12 years old and still laying regularly?
