Hen lays eggs from top perch

I have always wondered about finding eggs out in the hen house floor instead of nest box. I just figured it was getting kicked out. Well I just now witnessed a flying egg. Lol. I was peeking in to do a head count and saw a hen up on the highest roost (5 feet) as I started to look away she plopped her egg and it fell to the floor unharmed. Crazy chicken! Good thing we are doing deep litter method!

My hens seem to lay from the roost when they are startled, or when the crazy rooster crows his head off incessantly for whatever reason once in a while. It only happens once in a while.

I have one that lays every day from the roost. All the other hens are in the nest boxes, not sure how to get her to move her business to a nest. She just started laying 2 weeks ago...

Perhaps she is a chinese chicken and wants you to make "egg drop " soup.

Glad it didn't break. Nothing worse than an egg eater.
