My young (17 weeks) recently acquired RI hybrid hen went more or less overnight from being lively and happy to being hunched up and sad looking, frequently standing on one leg and then the other. This has been going on for 3 days. She is still feeding well but small comb is very pale. I am new to hen keeping so a bit worried. Vet fees will be a problem so am hoping for some suggestions. Thanks, Roofey

It can be egg bound or crop issue

Check her crop inthe morning before feeding her
Her crop should be empty
If her crop is empty in morning
She doesnt have crop issues

Then it can be egg bound
Has she started laying ?? Is she walking like penguine or keeping her tail downwards
Check the area just before the vent softly
If it is hard and bulgy ( like an egg inside it )
Then it is egg bound

In addition to these checks, check her poop.
When did she hit the ground?
Did you recently make any new additions to your flock?

How recently acquired?
Photos of her poop and of her would be good.
