hen lethargic - won't eat or drink- threw up some water??

My 4 month old Light Brahma hen was fine until this morning; she did not run outside to the chicken yard when l let everyone else out. She is just standing in a corner of the hen house. l offered her some scrambled eggs- would not touch them!! She will neither eat nor drink. l picked her up to examine her and some clear, warm water (?) came out of her mouth. What in the world is going on?? Please help! This is too weird.

Check her crop. Could it be impacted? Any other symptoms?

What's her living arrangements? Does she free-range, or get out and about in a run or the yard? Does she have grit? What's she been eating? Any table scraps? Does her crop feel full? Could she have overheated?

I wouldn't be concerned about the spitting up of water. Lots of times when you pick one up, you press on their crop, and they will spit up.

What's her poop look like? Any discharge at the vent? Feathers at the vent clean?

Perhaps with a bit more information I can try to help ya some. In the mean time, keep her separated from the flock. That way they won't pick on her, and you can monitor what she's doing better. Keep clean water, and food in with her. And we'll try to go from there.

thanks for your interest. l went out this evening to check on her and she was throwing up green stuff. She was a free range hen- loved it outside. l think she may have eaten something bad- l did find some hard unripe green peaches that had fallen from a tree in the hen yard. Anyway, after throwing up quite a lot of liquid, she just laid down and died an hour later. l am still in shock.

I had one just like that two weeks ago.. .my Speckled Sussex, Olivia. We had to bring her inside. Once she cooled down we let her free range in an area all by herself and we put out plenty of water dishes, treats etc...

It took three nights indoors and isolation... and then an AC unit in the coop, but now she's doing fine and fights for the yogurt I gave them this morning just like the rest.
