She started this yesterday mid day and it’s just getting worse. I feel no breaks and it doesn’t seem swollen no bumble foot. She is a silkie cross so very fluffy I cut her leg feathers shorter so I could check it out more closely. It won’t be the cause of the perch as it was again mid day. She was walking on it yesterday but now it’s being held up. She just layed a egg so that’s a good sign
Please help she is the only off spring of my beloved rooster and is my most friendly hen!

Don’t mind the mess she tipped it over with her foot

Does her leg feel limp? Have you checked out her leg to see if there may be any breaks? She could’ve sprained her leg or even pulled/slipped a muscle or tendon.

It is a bit limp but she can hold it up and step on it if she wants to. How long would it take for a sprain to heal? I don’t feel any breaks like weird bumps or anything

Could take a few weeks if that’s the case. Keep her separated and confined so she’s not using that leg too much

I have to revive this thread, she has gotten so worse and beginning to think she has mareks 😭 her other leg is not working probably anymore, her wings are holding her up but they are also limp, she layed a egg yesterday, 99% of the time She is sitting, still eating and drinking but she’s is thin, smelly poops, her pupils are normal and she’s can see. It can’t be though because the only reason she was limping in the first place is because my friend dropped her! I am so confused 🤷🏼‍♀️

@Kiki @Eggcessive I don’t know who else to tag

Can you take a video of how she walks and upload it to YouTube or Vimeo with a link posted here? If she is injured, a vet might be able to xray the leg, but if she has Mareks, you would need to get her tested or have necropsy by your state vet if you lose her, to get a diagnosis. A chicken sling might be of help to get her in front of food and water, and to keep her cleaner. Here is a link about slings:
