My one year old turkey was limpling in the pen on Wed & Thursday. Today when I went out to feed her, she wouldn't or couldn't get up. I've checked her legs and body and don't see any injuries or anything odd on her feet. She ate the apple slices I left for her this morning. Tonight, I wanted to move her a bit, so got her to try to stand by bracing her in my lap - she doesn't seem able to put any weight on her leg and I'm not sure but it doesn't even seem like she has full control of it since it was farther back than the other one. She can't support her weight.
Any ideas would be appreciated- I called a vet but he can't see her until Sunday and thought it might be bumblefeet but based on my research today, I don't see anything unusual with her foot.
Thanks

Could you tell us what kind of turkey she is? Is she broad breasted or heritage? Did you get to look close enough to make sure that there weren't any splinters or thorns stuck in her foot?

She's a broad breasted - She is bedded on sawdust and straw - I will check her foot very closely for a splinter Sat am when I have good light. When I looked at it earlier, I compared her foot to the other one - it didn't feel any different than her other foot. I just went out to lock them up for the night and she did manage to move about 1.5' - I think she pushes herself with her good leg. I did press and feel around her foot but didn't notice a reaction from her. (I thought maybe if I hit a sore spot she'd pull away). thanks for the advice.....she is a very sweet turkey and I don't want to have to put her down.

If she is broad breasted, that is likely the problem. Keep an eye on what you are feeding her, and don't give her corn in her diet. If you can get her moving more, some exercise might help. You need to try to get her weight down (without starving her) and you can also try giving her some aspirin and glucosamine/chondroitin to help her joints. When I have more time in a bit, I'll try to find the info on how much aspirin. Unfortunately, the BB types are very prone to joint problems because of their massive weight. I'll see what info I can find to help you help her.

I will try to find the dosage for aspirin to see if that helps and start her on it tomorrow. She moved on her own tonight - but I know she didn't walk....just slid/pushed herself.
If she makes it, I will figure out how to slim her down.
thanks

do you know if there is a way to telll if it is some type of nerve damage? That was a possibility the vet suggested.
She can open and close her toes.

You might want to consider going with the standard or heritage breeds if you are raising for pets. BB birds are produced for fast growth and processing at a few months. I hope she gets better.
