Hen loosing feathers!!!!!

I have 6 hens and only one of them is loosing her feathers. It is all over her back and breast. Even when I just pick her up a couple feathers usually fall out! The coop is littered with her feathers. Is it just molting season or is it something else? Please help!

Do you have a rooster or a dominant hen who mounts her?

Is she at the bottom of the pecking order?

Whatever the cause, extra protein may help and some wild bird suet in the coop to enhance new feather growth.

Check for mites and lice. Check for mites at night with a flashlight. If she has either or both treat all hens with poultry dust. It costs a few dollars and you should be able to get it at the feed store. You will also have to clean the coop, sprinkle everything with poultry dust and put in clean bedding.
