Hen Losing Weight

I am a huge fan of Baytril even though it's banned in poultry, but it should be used wisely and f possible, on the recommendation of a vet.

It's tetra'something sulfa. She wouldn't tell me the names of the others, but I'm not surprised after this chain of events with tunes and pain killer. I know I used that same one for a chicken with a prolapsed vent at a different vet. He said it was a 40 day withdrawl for eggs and 125 for food (not going to eat her) but this vet said we can never eat her eggs again.

Tetracyline-Sulfa. I think thats right. I was trying to look it up online, but I'll know for sure in a few hours.

I think it's time to quit my day job so I can just take care of the critters all day :)

Is it TMS??? That's what they gave my hen and it did not work, it upset her more than anything.

Oh ok. I reallllly hope it works. I'm not familiar with that drug, but hopefully it gets her back to normal again.

Ok we have metacam for pain and bactrim for an antibiotic. I'll have to do some research, but for now hopefully it all works in her favor.

Metacam is good, it's an NSAID. The Bactrim is sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprm, aka SMZ/TMP and TMS. It's a good antibiotic, but not as good as Baytril for some types of infections, like E. coli.
