Hen Losing Weight

To calculate the dose - weight of bird in pounds, divide by 2.2, times # of mg/kg you want, divide by number of mg/ml (your's will be 100mg/ml). Based on a 3.7 pound bird at 10mg/kg it looks like this:
  • 3.7 ÷ 2.2 x 10 ÷ 100 = 0.168ml

At 6.75mg/kg:
  • 3.7 ÷ 2.2 x 6.75 ÷ 100 = 0.11ml

Dose that make sense? Have your husband check my math, 'cause I do make mistakes!

Ok so if I want to do a once a day treatment....that would be 15mg/kg a day....so my math would look like this.....

3.7/2.2= 1.68 kg

1.68kg x 15mg/kg= 25.2 mg

25.2mg /100mg/ml = 0.25mL. !!!! Ha I did it!

I had to pull out the memory files from my radiation physics class...lol. I had to recall how units cancel out to get the unit your looking for. In this case it was mL!

So it's 0.25 mL once a day x 5 days.

Is this right?????? Lol. :D

Quote: I give both at the same time, along with Safeguard and sometimes metronidazole, so yes, you can give them together. FYI, neither lists the other as a drug interaction. Bayrtil should not be given with calcium and possibly some other minerals. If you're curious, look up the drug interactions for Cipro, it's in the same class of antibiotics, so whatever it says for Cipro will probably be true for Baytril.

That is correct for 15mg/kg.

15mg/kg once a day is amount my vet has told me to use a couple of time, but she's also told me to use 20mg/kg once a day and 10mg/kg twice a day.

Thanks Kathy. I calculated 20mg/kg and gave it to her. I figured if it's calculated for her then it should be ok .....I think she needs it.
