hen making a unusal noise

I have a hen that I have had 2 years now...she is making a noise we have never heard before. Its more like a wine or whaling sound instead of her usual cackleing noise. she also sometimes seems to walk in circles.. when we let the chickens out of the coop she jumps down normal and wanders around with the rest of the chickens... the noise she makes has been the last two days.

anyone experience this? or know what it is? or what is causing this behavior?

My uneducated guess is that she's imitating a roo's crowing, trying to announce her place as the flock's leading lady & dominance.

I have 2 girls that will whine until I let them out of their run. Does she look like she's crowing?

Does she puff up when she does this, and does it sound somewhat like a shriek? If so, your hen could be getting broody.

Hmmm... in the chicken coop behind some garbage cans we store extra grain and cracked corn...on the floor we found a nest of eggs... all green. I am wondering if she is getting broody? She does not appear to be hurt . I called the local feed store and asked the women who raise chickens... They told us to put her off by her self, because rooster seemed to be pecking at her when it was time to put them away for the night........she eats and drinks inside the metal kennel we have been keeping her in... she has not laid any eggs in two days since she has been inside.
I think I might let her out and see what she does........she does not apprear to be hurt or in any pain... I am going to take little pocket camera that takes short videos and see if I can't capture the noise.
