Hello all, I found my hen this evening eating a mouse. She was in front of the garage that we have some mouse poison in (it was 0.01% bromethalin). However, she had not punctured the mouses stomach, only some fur was missing and a little of her head was pecked. I do not know if the mouse died from poisoning, but I figured it’s same to assume it was. Since she didn’t get into the mouses intestines, should she be okay?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the poison gets in the bloodstream. Did your chicken ingest blood or just peck it?
I'm really no expert, but if it only looks pecked I think your hen is going to be okay. I've had cats bite into rat poison and live, so just watch for symptoms of poisoning. Bloody vomit, bloody stools, etc. if she starts acting off get her to a vet ASAP :)

I believe she just pecked it, I saw the mouse in her mouth and took it from her. I think she may have just pecked it, but the intestinal wall wasn’t punctured at all that I could see.

Okay, just observe her over the next 24 hours and make note of anything weird. Otherwise, I think she's going to be perfectly fine :)

Is there a time frame in which I would begin to notice signs if something was wrong?
Anytime between 24 hours. I kept my cat In a kennel for 48 hours just in case. Just check on her occasionally, every few hours. If she's acting fine you can get a good night's sleep and check her again in the morning

Okay, I have her separated from the others here. She’s still acting her normal spunky self!
