Hello all, you've been so helpful in the past just seeing if anyone has advice!
I have 11 chickens total. I have one Rhode Island Red who is the top hen (I no longer have a rooster) since beginning of spring she began to assert her dominance by mounting the other chickens. I ended up expanding my outdoor run to help with it, which it did to an extent, she stopped harassing my one hen and just picks ones at random now.
She has completely lost all feathers on her chest, which I checked for mites and feather picking but found no evidence. I know it is from her mounting the other hens. It's getting VERY cold here in PA and I thought during molt she would grow them back, which did not happen. She molted all other feathers expect the ones on her chest. My other hens that lost feathers due to her behavior grew theirs back during molt so I know it's not mites/lice.
I feed a high protein feed and give them extra meal worms during colder weather to help regrow feathers. Im at a loss with what to do with her, she looks terrible and i'm sure her chest is cold! She still lays eggs every single day.
Anyone else deal with this issue or have advice on if these feathers will grow back or not?
Thank you!
