Hen non-responsive - head down, tail up not moving

Thanks for your help, BYCers. She started to have convulsions and died about an hour ago. My daughter is actually taking it better than I am. Marzipan was the top hen and had the most personality, so she will be missed. I'm going to have a careful look around our land to see if I can figure out what she could have gotten into. We still have so much snow that I know it can't be any new plants coming up (we have about 18" on the ground).

Thanks again for your advice and concern. I truly appreciate it.

very sorry to hear this.

So, sorry. It is always hard to lose a pet. When my Lucy died, I cried for almost a week. She was also the top hen and dearly loved by everyone. On the brightside, you still have other hens. Give them lots of love. This always works for me when I lost a dog, cat, chicken or rabbit. See if you can get a necroposy ASAP to determine what was the cause.

I hate to say this, but everytime one of my hens has layed on her side with her legs out, she died. Another chicken friend told me that when a chicken decides to die, there is nothing you can do to save it
