Oh I am so glad your girl is feeling better! These chooks can be such a worry at times.

Do you just have the two girls? They are beautiful, what breed are they? I meant to ask earlier but forgot.

Yes I worry too much, and at the moment that I say, don' t worry so much, the' re fine, this happens... So maybe worrying helps ..
Yes I have only those 2, I had 3 but my Sussex Hen died in June of reproductive issues. I only can have 2 or 3 chickens because our families live a 7 hour drive away, and their run is not that big ( 10 x 24), and when we go to my parents in law we can take them with us but that run is just 3 x12. I' d love to have one day a real flock with more hens and a rooster!

It's terrible how much health issues chickens have, I guess these molts are so extreme because of the egg- laying machines they are... never saw a totally naked wild bird...
I have had 7 chickens since 2018, and none of them died of old age, it' s always these productive issues...

Now I' m going to find out what these 2 ladies want to eat Thank you for the suggestions!

what breed are they?

Sorry forgot this... They are sold here as greeneggers, I think their mum is a crested cream legbar, because of their crest and it had to be a blue egg- layer, and their dad is of a brown- egg laying breed, don' t know wich...
Today Mona is much beter, yesterday they stayed in their run, it was a bit cold and overcast, today they both waited till the sun was out of their run and then they got out and spent the whole afternoon in the sun, eating a bit of grass and weeds.
They won' t eat tuna but they really liked the eggnoodles and salat/ cabage ...they had some turkeymeat that they liked, and all the sunflowerseeds were eaten ... so a bit off progress

My chooks really love fresh fish, which we pan fry, it’s a rare treat for them as usually there are no leftovers here! But sometimes I will put a small bit aside for my elderly hens.

Another thing they love here, is pasta. Any sort of pasta, with sauce or without.

We normally don’t have enough leftovers to give regularly here, but sometimes we cook too many carrots or potatoes and those are gobbled up in seconds by the flock.

I have had them hop up onto my lawn chair and steal my bagel! And me just cannot eat near those chooks! They are very fast to hop up and grab whatever they can.

One of my sisters hens grabbed my cousin’s wee girl’s pizza! Poor girl cried, of course we adults were laughing.

Chickens are so much fun.

Today is a bit colder, and I think it's not good for Mona' s recovery, she's not better compared to yesterday, but not worse eather.. and Lisa didn' t want to eat anything so I went out and bought sesame seeds for her, because she loves them, and she was so happy with it that she made the yum- sound...

You can try some liquid infant Paracetamol (Acetaminophen we call it), the dose is 10mg/kg. The infant Paracetamol should say 80mg/ml, in which case an average size (2kg) hen gets 0.25ml (1/4ml), that's 20mg of Paracetamol - remember it's 10mg for each kg of weight. You can give this every 12 hrs.

This might make them feel better and eat more. I usually give mine this when they are moulting or not feeling well. You can also try 1/2 a low dose (80mg) aspirin. They can have this twice a day, every 12 hrs.

I have about 6 hens here that are moulting really bad, half bald. It's not a good time of year to moult as the weather here is getting below freezing over night now. Wish they had moulted during the summer when it was hot and humid!
