I have a speckled sussex hen (nearly 2 years old) who for the past 2 nights has not returned to the coop for bedtime. Without fail, all my girls have gone to bed as expected for years and now this one hen is defying her bedtime
Same hen. I don't close up until well after dark, so it is not a matter of me not waiting long enough. I end up out there with a flashlight trying (unsuccessfully) to find her. She's come back in the AM. Any thoughts? Everyone free ranges during the day, we live in the woods with lots of cover, haven't had an predator issues that I'm aware of. Only other changes is another hen who's decided to go broody, but there are plenty of laying boxes and my 16 birds have a very large coop with plenty of roost and nest space.
Thanks in advance for any help.
