I am new to the back yard chicken forums but have been able to find some very helpful information. My son was given a mama hen with 5 chicks (3 hens and 2 roosters) when they were approximately 2 weeks old. We have had them now for over two months. They are all in the same pen, ( a coop with a large area for then to get around.) about 3 weeks ago she started laying again, but in the past week I had trouble with her and found she was broody. I removed her and placed her into a separate cage for about 4 days and then returned her with the rest. She has not layed since. Am I doing something wrong? She isn't staying in her nest like she was before I moved her, but NO eggs.
Also, is it ok to leave mama hen with her two rooster sons. At this time I don't have any plans to hatch any eggs, but should that be ok.

Do you know the breed. Some are perpetually broody or at least it seems like that. After being 'broken' from broodiness it takes a while for a hen to resume laying. It is a hormonal thing, and depending upon her breed she may never be a high level egg producer. You are not doing anything wrong. 2 roosters with 4 hens may be causing stress on the hens.
