hen not raising hatched chicks

why would a hen cast out 1 week old chicks and leave them for dead?

She doesn't have the Mommy gene? The chicks are not healthy? After years and years of being raised by incubators, the natural desire to care for young is not in her make up? There are a number of reasons, some humans will probably never understand. Hope you're able to take up where she left off or have another hen who won't mind a few more in the brood. The poor chicks shouldn't suffer because mom can't do her job.

these particular hens are aseels and have been very broody. Would the fact that she is sitting more eggs keep her from caring for chicks?
