Thanks everyone so much for your reply, its very much appreciated, I've never had any Roosters before, Just hens, can they get vicious or anything, as i have young children, I have about 18 hens 5 of them are about 7 years old, have them living there lifes out in a separate coop, would it be ok to put the cockerel in with the older hens, sorry for all the questions.

Some roosters are mean and will attack, but most will not. To be on the safe side, I would keep children away from him. If you keep him locked up with the older hens you should be okay, but if he ever gets aggressive with you or any other human then you should consider getting rid of him.
