The behavior doesn’t really mean anything tbh. My Orp boys were very timid and skittish too and they were definitely, 100% males. In fact, my main one constantly got beat up by the girls until like almost a year old. He started crowing at 7 months but they still beat him up until he found his confidence. So males can act that way too.
I am just going based on my own experience with all of the cockerels I have raised.
I have not raised a Buff Orpington cockerel, so I do not have personal experience with their behavior particularly.
